An assertive, yet modest garden intervention, the Patio at the Kuskin-Bell residence in Seattle nestles into a space between deck and tree to define a portion of the yard where the family can gather around a home-made fire pit. The Patio creates an intimate little outdoor room - a lovely transition from a beautiful, open house, onto the deck which is an extension of that house, and spills down into the lawn, claiming the landscape as a piece of the home. A reversal of traditional paving where grass grows between stones, here spaces are stone, and pavers are grass.
